Newcastle to York

Compatibility: Rail Simulator

This route is included in the European release of Rail Simulator but NOT in the USA and some other territories. It's been a popular route where it's been available, so we're releasing it separately for those who don't have this route in their version of Rail Simulator but would like to find out what they're missing.

Experience the north of England in its 70s glory days when coal was king! Running down the east coast of England for around 80 miles, this route links Newcastle, on the river Tyne, with the famous rail hub of York.

The route features accurate period scenery which can be viewed while driving one of three authentic trains included. Fully functional rolling stock is ready to operate along the route and includes the Class 55 'Deltic' and Class 47 Diesel locomotives, as well as the famous HST 125 (High Speed Train) in its original livery scheme when it was first introduced to the UK network.

The route's period is set at a time when freight traffic was at an all-time high due to nearby coal reserves and the North's abundance of industrial and manufacturing commerce. Also included is a full rake of authentic Mk2 coaches, the HAA merry-go-round coal hopper and PCA Presflo Powder Hopper. All the locos and rolling stock are modelled in accurate detail along with authentic custom sounds and realistic cabs for the locos.

To allow you to explore and enjoy the route to the full, four typical period scenarios are also included.

Up for the cup

There's an FA Cup clash between local rivals York and Darlington. A special football service has been laid on, headed by a Class 55 Deltic locomotive. With one stop at Northallerton, you must arrive at Darlington before 2.00pm to ensure all fans get to the match on time. But be wary in case they get too 'excited' before arriving.

Coals to Newcastle

It's one of the coldest winters on record and Britain is in the grip of widespread industrial action. The knock-on effects of the freezing weather and strikes have started to affect the railways with a backlog of freight building up. Your task is to help clear some of this backlog by taking a long consist of coal wagons to Dunston Staithes where they will be transferred onto a waiting ship.

The need for speed

Drivers are normally required to stay safely within the speed limits and operate a calm and relaxed service but today things are different. Your task is to carry out a publicity stunt to show off speed capabilities for the introduction of the Intercity 125 High Speed Trains (HST).

Long hop

Ferry assorted cargo consignments down the East Coast Main Line (ECML), hopping between freight yards. The weather is bad and your train will be heavy, so there is no room for slacking or tea breaks!
