ROUTES
There are four main interconnected routes on the Marsdonshire network:
Cairnlochross to Portkeane
This is an electrified line connecting the cities of Cairnlochross in the west and Portkeane in the east, with eight stations. The line is approximately 44 miles (71km) in length and features supelevation. Several smaller lines branch off from the main line.
Marsdon to Anstone
This rural branch line of approximately 45 miles (72.4km) takes you through scenic countryside, moorland and hilly terrain, and features challenging gradients and numerous tunnels and viaducts. The two settlements of Skelthwaite and Grenton are located on this line and both play host to steam locomotive museums. There are also two lines which branch off from the route.
Marsdon to Portkeane (coastal route)
This route is approximately 24 miles (38.6km) long and has six stations along it, two of which are under ground.
Grenton to Duntelum Pike
This challenging 14 mile (22.5km) line winds its way up the mountainside from the Grenton Railway Heritage Centre to the ski resort of Duntelum Pike. A unique feature of this particular route is that it is constantly covered with snow, which starts from about half way up the mountain. So, even if you start at Grenton on a glorious summer's day, you will notice as you climb upwards towards the ski centre that the terrain gradually starts to show signs of snow – and by the time you reach the top of the mountain, a full cover of snow is waiting for you.
