The Broadway Limited was a passenger train operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) between New York City and Chicago which operated from 1912 to 1995. It was the Pennsylvania's premier train, competing directly with the New York Central Railroad's 20th Century Limited. The Broadway Limited continued operating after the formation of Penn Central (PC) in February 1968, one of the few long-distance trains to do so. PC conveyed the train to Amtrak in 1971, who operated it until 1995. The train's name referred not to Broadway in Manhattan, but rather to the 'broad way' of PRR's four-track right-of-way along the majority of its route.
Pullman-Standard built the entirety of the equipment pool for the 1938 lightweight re-equipping, with the exception of two dining cars which were rebuilt in PRR's Altoona shops. The equipment delivered included eight 18-roomette sleeping cars; two sleeper-bar-lounges; four 4-compartment, 2-drawing room, 4-double bedroom sleeping cars; two 13-double bed-room sleeping cars; and two View series sleeper-buffet-lounge-observation cars. The dining car seated 24 at tables (in both 1x1 and 2x2 configurations) and featured a small bar at one end with seating for two. The sleeper-bar-lounge included a secretary's room, barber shop, shower-bath, and a bar/lounge with both booth and chair seating.

BROADWAY LIMITED FAN TRIP
The series starts on the former Pennsylvania Railroad's east – west Chicago – Philadelphia mainline, just outside of Philadelphia. You will take this train from Philadelphia area to New York City Penn Station making 3 stops. After our passengers depart for a tour of the city, the train will be turned and serviced at New York's Sunnyside Yard ( not modeled in this scenario set). The return journey later in the afternoon of the same day will not attempt to re-create the original Broadway Limited NYC to Chicago schedule. It will instead try to run non-stop back towards Harrisburg.
Broadway Limited Fan Trip Part 1
This trip started near Harrisburg Pennsylvania. We join the trip just as the train is joining Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. In Part 1 we will attempt to follow the 'Broadway Limited's' 1969 schedule from North Philadelphia as far as Trenton New Jersey, on our way to New York City.
Broadway Limited Fan Trip Part 2
It should be easy going toward NYC, now that Amtrak Train 256 has moved to the northbound slow track. But we are still a lower priority extra for the dispatcher, so we must continue to monitor the signals.
Broadway Limited Fan Trip Part 3
For our return trip we will not be attempting to meet any historical schedule, running non-stop. Getting out of NYC during the early rush hour will be challenging enough.
